Airelles Gordes La Bastide

Stay: May 2025

Published October 2025

Airelles is a french boutique hotel chain with locations throughout France. The Gordes La Bastide location is located in the small village of Gordes in Provence, about 45 minutes from Avignon. Built into the cliff sides of Gordes, the hotel has a historic feel with charm while providing modern luxuries with impeccable hospitality.

What stood out:

  • Incredible location in the heart of the small Provencial village of Gordes

  • Historic feel of common places and rooms, with Provencial country-side style decor, but with modern amenities.

  • So many complementary treats and gifts throughout our stay - including everything in the mini bar, hotel branded pajamas, hats, bags, and Laduree macarons!

Booking and arrival

We booked a private transfer from the Avignon train station through the hotel concierge, which cost 150 euros each way. The driver was waiting with a sign upon exit from the train station and we were taken to the hotel, which is about 45 minutes away. In the car was a small bag from the hotel with water, tissues, moist towelettes, and a small package of cookies. There was also an Airelles branded toiletry bag for us to keep.

The front of the hotel is quite discrete, with the exterior blending in with all the other buildings in the village. Upon arrival, the bellhop greeted us and took our luggage. Upon entering the lobby, you get a sense for the historic village charm of the hotel right away.

During check-in, we were offered cold towels and a welcome hibiscus drink. Prior to our stay, we had filled out an information form stating that we were celebrating our anniversary. At check in, this was noted and the staff warmly wished us a happy anniversary. We booked this stay with a Virtuoso travel agent - this came with complementary breakfast, an additional 85 euro credit to be used during the hotel stay and upgrade on arrival based on availability (we did not end up receiving an upgrade). We were then escorted to our room by an employee, who also gave us a quick tour of the hotel.

Deluxe Valley Room

We booked directly to the Deluxe Valley Room, which has views of the Luberon valley. This is a few rooms above the base room. On entry, we were treated with a few welcome sweets and a strawberry tart with a “Happy Anniversary” placard.

On the bed we were gifted Airelles branded pajamas, eye masks, tote bag, and sun hat. Of note, every evening at turndown we also received additional gifts such as luggage tags with our initials and a branded baseball cap.

In the hallway between the bed and bathroom, there is a closet which included a mini bar - all the snacks and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages) in the mini bar were complementary and were refreshed daily.

The bathroom was quite spacious, with a double vanity with a separate tub and shower. Amenities included a Dyson hairdryer and Airelles branded soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There was a box with additional amenities including a nail set (tweezers, nail clipper, nail file), lip balm, hand cream, and anything else you may need.

Dining

La Table de La Bastide

La Table de La Bastide serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our daily breakfast was served here; the breakfast area is separate from the main dining room used for lunch and dinner.

Breakfast included a buffet with large variety of pastries, bread, cold meats, hot dishes such as eggs and sausage, as well as yogurt and fruits. There is also an ala carte menu that is included with additional drinks/juices and entrees to order if desired; all included in the breakfast rate.

A note on presentation: we noticed they iron the tablecloth for all the tables for a fresh, clean looking table for all guests!

The Bar at La Bastide

The bar has an indoor and outdoor dining area and is open throughout the day for drinks and food. We sat outside both days of our stay. Drinks range between 25 to 30 euros each. Views from the outdoor patio were beautiful, especially during sunset.

There was one dining mishap: one evening we ordered food and the waiter mistakenly served us the wrong item. After confirming with him that it was the incorrect order, he offered to exchange the item for the right one but we declined since we did not mind and didn’t want to food waste. Normally in these situations, the dish may have been removed from our bill, but we were charged for it. Not an issue and we were fine paying for it, but interesting to note.

Clover Gordes

  • Run by a Michelin starred French chef, Clover Gordes specializes in Provencial cuisine, focusing on local ingredients to  the region. The picturesque outdoor patio of the restaurant offers amazing views of Luberon Valley and was used as a filming site for an episode of Emily in Paris (season 3).

  • We had dinner here one night but the patio was not open due to high winds. The indoor dining area is just as picturesque with Provencial color palette/decor. We were treated with an olive oil tasting from the region and were also given complementary petit fours for dessert (candied figs and Calissons - an almond and melon candy from Provence)

  • Overall the food was very good and the portions were surprisingly large - the pistou pasta (Provencial version of pesto) came in a huge serving bowl with enough pasta for at least 2-3 people!

Laduree

  • The group that owns the Airelles hotel chain also owns Laduree - with that said, there is a Laduree store just outside of the hotel in the Gordes village. There you can sit and enjoy the classic French desserts including macarons and sip up on a coffee or tea.

  • We were also gifted a small box of Laduree macarons on check out, which was a nice touch.

Amenities, Activities, and Experiences

The outdoor grounds of the hotel property is beautiful - encompassing the side of the cliffs of the village and overlooking the Luberon Valley. There is an amazing outdoor pool with plenty of lounge beds for guests to use. Non-alcoholic drinks are complementary at the pool. There is an attendant there to help assist with bringing extra towels and setting up the day beds to use. The lawn beside the pool was also set up for a few lawn games such as Finnish bowling game called Molkky and Croquet. During the warmer months (we visited during the spring), there is an ice cream cart outside as well.

The spa area includes treatment rooms, and also complementary use of the spa area for hotel guests, which includes access to a sauna, hammam, and their indoor pool. The indoor pool is heated and there are lounge beds for guests to lay on. There is also an area with water, drinks, and small snacks. The day we visited the indoor pool was a chilly day, so many other guests had used the pool throughout the day - by the time we arrived later in the afternoon we did note that the towel bin was overflowing with used towels and there were not many extras towels left to use.

There is also a 24 hour gym available, but we did not use the facilities during our stay.

“Camp Airelles” is an indoor/outdoor area for kids, with games such as pinball and a claw machine complementary to use. There are sitting areas with TVs. The outdoor areas have a ping pong table and a kids pool. This is likely popular during high season but as we visited in early May, we never saw any children in the area (or throughout the hotel either).

Exploring the village of Gordes is an activity of its own. Every Tuesday morning the village hosts a market with stalls set up around the village castle selling soaps, clothing, linens, and all things lavender. There are also a number of stalls selling food, such as artisanal bread, olive oils, sausage, cheese, etc. There are also some beautiful viewpoints of the Luberon Valley throughout the village.

Nearby the village is the Abbey of Senanque, which was built in the 12th century. It’s a popular destination to visit throughout the year, but especially during the summer months when their lavender fields are in bloom. When we visited in early May, the lavender was not yet blooming but the Abbey and the surrounding grounds itself were beautiful.

Last Thoughts

Airelles Gordes La Bastide is a magnificent property, highlighting the beauty of Provence while offering a luxurious retreat within the picturesque village of Gordes. We enjoyed exploring the village, trying foods unique to the region, and enjoying the views all around. Next time we hope to visit during lavender season!
